Firmware database
The SFPTotal Firmware Database provides data and resources for programming transceivers. Use it when preparing compatible code for a particular module and network device. This article explains access requirements and how to select suitable data.
When programming SFP modules, "firmware" often refers to the contents of accessible memory areas. This image is not necessarily the controller's internal executable software. First identify the data needed for your task; see the EEPROM and Serial ID guide.
Firmware Database access requirements
Website access requires an account with a verified email address, a completed profile and at least one linked original SFPTotal device. Simply possessing an unlinked coding board does not link it to your account.
- Sign in to your account and complete email verification and your profile if the website asks you to do so.
- Open My devices and check that your coding board is listed. If it is missing, submit a request to add it using its serial number.
- You can find the serial number in SFPTotal Wizard through Help → Get device version. Do not confuse it with the transceiver serial number in Serial ID.
- After linking is complete, open Firmware Database in your account. Access to SFPTotal Labs also depends on the linked account status and service authentication.
Linking a device and activating the coding board are separate procedures. The conditions for enabling board operations must not be confused with database sign-in requirements. Check code availability and its terms of use in the service.
Choosing code for SFP and other transceivers
| Parameter | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Form factor and management interface | SFP, SFF-8636 and CMIS memory maps have different fields and access procedures. |
| Part number and hardware revision | The same commercial name does not guarantee the same memory, controller or write procedure. |
| Physical parameters | The data rate, optical configuration or RJ45 interface must match the actual product and link. |
| Target equipment | The switch model, port and software version determine transceiver identification and support requirements. |
| Area to modify | Identify which fields may be changed and which settings, calibrations and unique data must be preserved. |
Matching a brand or file length is only part of the check. Do not replace a targeted change with a complete image from different hardware. If the resource description does not confirm applicability to your module, clarify this before writing.
Changing identification data does not change the physical data rate, wavelength, fiber type or hardware capabilities. If the link failure has a physical cause, different code will not resolve it.
Working with the selected data
- Read the original module and record its identification data.
- Make a backup of the accessible pages. Keep it separate from the prepared code.
- Choose data using the parameters above and determine the write protection type.
- Prepare the required changes, verify the applicable checksums and perform the write according to the instructions.
- Read the modified areas again and compare the result. If the procedure requires committing data or a normal restart, follow the procedure for that model and check that the persistent data is retained.
- Check identification and actual operation in the target equipment.
If the database does not open or suitable code is unavailable
- No device is linked: check My devices and the request status. Registering another account does not replace device linking.
- The website asks you to verify your email or complete your profile: complete the requested procedure in your account.
- An error occurs when opening SFPTotal Labs: read the message in your account. If a Labs account already exists, you may need to sign in with the password previously set. Contact Support if account creation fails.
- Data applicability has not been confirmed: prepare the transceiver part number and revision, equipment model, software version and Wizard operation response. Send files and serial numbers only through the designated support channel.
If Support requests more information, include the exact error message and specify the stage at which it occurred: website sign-in, device linking, opening Labs or selecting data.
